DR. MATHEW WOODWARD

Board Certified Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon

A native of Annapolis, Dr. Woodward is a board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon who received his doctorate from the University of Maryland Dental School and completed his internship in oral & maxillofacial surgery at Rutgers University. Following internship, Dr. Woodward completed four additional years of surgical residency at the University of Rochester and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Centers. While at the University of Rochester, he gained extensive training in Anesthesiology, Internal Medicine, Infectious Disease, Cardiology, Trauma & Acute Care Surgery, ICU care, Otorhinolaryngology, and Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. He was honored to serve as chief resident at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, a world-renowned center for implantology, bone grafting and facial reconstruction, traumatology, & craniofacial surgery (orthognathic and cleft lip & palate). After practicing in Vermont and Minnesota for several years, Dr. Woodward has been delighted to return to Maryland and join his best friend and classmate, Dr. Wu.

Dr. Woodward’s dedication to compassionate care is matched only by his commitment to ensure the utmost safety for each of his patients. For these reasons he maintains certifications in pediatric advanced life support (PALS) & advanced cardiac life support (ACLS).

Outside the office, you may spot Dr. Woodward with his wife and children hiking, biking, skiing, exploring the Bay, playing soccer with his boys, riding horses with his daughter, or at home enjoying great local food and drink with friends. Community service remains a focus for Dr. Woodward, as he has spent over 12 months teaching children in Ecuador and Colombia, South America. Born into a lineage of five generations of physicians and medical educators in Maryland, Dr. Woodward believes that active involvement in training student and resident doctors is critical to the practice of medicine and dentistry and to improving the health of our patients.

“My role as your surgeon is to keep you safe, maintain your comfort, and to reduce the amount of time you need to recover. It is why I focus so much of my practice on utilizing advanced techniques that minimize trauma and maximizes post-surgical comfort, thereby reducing my patients’ need for heavy opioid pain pills. Again, I’m committed to keeping you, your children, and your family members safe and comfortable. Caring for you and your loved ones is a privilege, and I look forward to meeting and discussing your oral & maxillofacial surgical concerns.”
